Vertigo Theatre’s mission is to thrill, entertain and inspire our audiences and artists with high quality experiences by developing and producing outstanding intrigue and mystery theatre. Vertigo Theatre productions often contain themes of heightened human emotion and intensity.

The following audience advisories are provided with the understanding that some spoilers may be revealed.These warnings are subject to change without notice and may evolve throughout the workshop and rehearsal process of each production .


THE LODGER

 

Recommended for ages 15+. This age recommendation is provided as a guide. Individual preferences and parental discretion should also be considered.

Language

Scenes contain explicit language.

Scenes of Violence

Scenes of violence and murder against women, depictions of a character being attacked from behind, ‘murdered’ with a knife, depictions of a woman’s throat being slit. Descriptions of the way characters are killed, scenes of domestic violence and abuse.

Scenes of Intimacy/Sexual content

A male actor may appear in his underwear. Scenes of intimacy between a husband and wife character. A woman undoes a man’s shirt buttons in a sensual manner.

 

Special Effects

This production may contain loud sounds, strobe lighting effects and stage haze & fog effects



 

Content Warning

This production contains scenes of violence and murder, particularly against women. References and depictions of a serial killer, and scenes of violence and domestic abuse.

 

SHERLOCK HOLMES: THE HUNT FOR MORIARTY

 

Recommended for Grades 7 and up. This age recommendation is provided as a guide. Individual preferences and parental discretion should also be considered.

Language

Minor language is used. Characters may speak with various dialects.

Scenes of Violence

References to man killed by a train. Depictions of a character being poisoned. Depictions and references to a “body” found stabbed with a letter opener.

Scenes of Intimacy/ Sexual Content

Characters may kiss on stage. References to blackmail of a sexual nature.

 

Special Effects

Stage haze, flashing lights.

 

Content Warning

Descriptions of “dead bodies”, political intrigue.

 

THE VEIL

 

Language

Some explicit language is used.

 

Scenes of Violence

A neck snapping sound effect is heard throughout the play. Depiction of a corpse onstage (a woman in a nude body suit), references to hanging and being thrown from a horse, depictions of reanimation of a “dead” body (in a Frankenstein manner), characters threaten each other with sharp objects. Characters may fight. Depictions of a character in a muzzle and led around by a leash.

 

Scenes of Intimacy And Sexual Content

A female character appears in a nude body suit. Characters may embrace intimately. A character is lead around on a leash with her mouth muzzled. Mature subject matter and themes of sexual/physical abuse.

Stage haze, lights flashing and strobe lighting effects. Scenes contain staged violence. Sound effects of a neck snapping.
