About Vertigo Theatre

Canada’s National Theatre of Mystery & Intrigue

Our mission is to thrill, entertain and inspire our audiences and artists with high quality experiences. Welcoming over 50,000 people annually, patrons can not only enjoy the Mystery Theatre series, but also the various local arts organizations that call Vertigo home.

Vertigo Theatre is located at the base of the Calgary Tower in the heart of downtown Calgary, and is home to the organization, its two performance venues, a rehearsal hall and the BD&P Theatre Series.

Vertigo Theatre has entertained audiences for 49 years with high quality programming, evolving into a truly unique organization.

Our work hasn’t gone unnoticed. The 2024/2025 production of MURDER ON THE LINKS saw our highest grossing audience in Vertigo’s history. Our profile has also grown and changed within Calgary’s artistic community. Since the inception of the Betty Mitchell Awards in 1998, Pleiades Theatre and Vertigo Theatre productions have been nominated for over 200 awards in design, directing, acting, production, choreography, fight direction and musical direction.

Vertigo Theatre is a member of PACT and we work under the Canadian Theatre Agreement which is jointly negotiated between PACT and Canadian Actors Equity.

BD&P Theatre Series

BD&P Theatre produces and presents five shows based in the mystery genre. Since our very first production in 1978 – Agatha Christie’s THE MOUSETRAP – we have continued to expand our boundaries, including the presentation of World Premieres by Calgary artists such as HEIST, THE EXTRACTIONIST, and CIPHER.

History of Vertigo Theatre

Vertigo Theatre was founded in 1976 as Pleiades Theatre. You might remember some of our productions in the old Science Centre. In 1997, we were incorporated as a charitable society. (Charitable Number: 88394 1825 RT0001). In 2003 we found a new home at the base of the Calgary Tower and changed our name to Vertigo Theatre. The move has encouraged meteoric growth.

Today we continue to produce plays in the mystery genre and work in partnership with The Shakespeare Company, The High Performance Rodeo and Lunchbox Theatre.
