Theatre promotes social awareness, creativity and communication. Our workshop program aligns theatre arts and school curriculums through structured, playful and interactive activities designed to promote self-confidence, encourage dialogue and spark imagination.

Increase the learning opportunity!

Our Workshop Program supports theatre arts and school curriculums by creating structured, interactive workshops that encourage dialogue and spark young people’s imaginations. Taught by professional artist-educators, they are intended to assist teachers in expanding the theatre experience with hands-on activities that tie back to our productions.

We offer two kinds of workshops:

  • Customized theatre workshops that respond to your classroom needs – e.g. playwriting, stage fighting, fundamentals of lighting design
  • Companion workshops that tie directly to selected productions in our season.

The usual workshop is for a maximum of 30 students and ranges from 50 – 90 minutes in length. Multiple instructors will be provided for groups larger than 30.  Prices start at $240, depending on nature of the workshop, the number of instructors and the length of the activity. There may be an additional transportation charge for workshops held outside of Calgary.  Contact Nathan Pronyshyn, Y Stage Artistic Producer to talk more about a possible workshop.

These workshops are tailored to suit schools or groups with specific needs or requirements for theatre-centred activities. These customize workshops provide a unique opportunity to enhance the theatre-going experience prior to or after the performance.

“I thought the workshop [Companion Workshop:Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play] was fun and very interactive. It was interesting and I learned a lot about how the actors make sounds and noises in plays. It was fun and an excellent experience. I would do it again.”
